Analytics Driven Commissioning HVAC Optimization

Museum of the Bible

Altura is working closely with Museum staff and controls  vendors to resolve system issues, implement targeted  improvements, and confirm performance readiness for the  2026 compliance deadline.

The Museum of the Bible, a 430,000+ square-foot facility in  Washington, D.C., needed to improve building performance to meet the Department of Energy and Environment Building Energy Performance Standard requirements. With historically high energy use intensity and annual utility costs exceeding $2.4 million, the  Museum faced the risk of a potential $4 million penalty if performance did not improve during the upcoming compliance period. Altura is also supporting the Museum’s compliance strategy by working with District officials to establish a performance variance that accounts for  the environmental conditions needed to protect sensitive artifacts.

Altura implemented an analytics-driven commissioning approach to address HVAC inefficiencies and establish a reliable path to compliance. The team integrated a data analytics platform to provide continuous performance insight, developing new optimized sequences of operation for the air-handling units and central plant,  and in supporting implementation efforts through close coordination with Museum staff and controls vendors.
